This post is brought to you in partnership with The Great American Milk Drive Campaign.
Every morning each member of our family starts the day off with milk, if we do not have it in cereal we drink it in a glass. Having milk for breakfast is something I have done since I can remember, and now that I have children of my own I make sure that they start their day off with milk as well. Milk is a great way to get protein and nutrients first thing in the morning, each 8 ounce glass contains 8 grams of protein – more than an egg, as well as 9 essential nutrients.
There are a number of Americans that are enduring financial hardship and cannot afford milk, turning to their local food bank for help. But there has been a shortage of milk donations and not every individual is able to have milk with their meals. Milk is at the top of the list for food items requested by food banks, and with the 37 million Americans being served, less than a gallon of milk goes to each person every year.
The Great American Milk Drive is here to change that!
Today, Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, has launched the Great American Milk Drive, which gives Americans a simple way to make a difference and donate nutrient-rich milk to hungry families in their communities. The launch event is taking place right now at City Harvest in New York City, which is one of the country’s largest food banks.
There are also 9 other events taking place around the United States including Boston, which I am currently attending. Follow me on Twitter @mommysfabfinds as well as Facebook for live updates.

The Great American Milk Drive is made possible by the nation’s dairy farmers and milk companies. Individuals can buy milk online at www.milklife.com/give (or text to a special code) for as little as $5 and donate it to a local food pantry. Every dollar collected will go towards purchasing and delivering milk to families in the Feeding America network.
Jesse Tyler Ferguson of ABC’s Modern Family and nutritionist Ellie Krieger are joining the The Great American Milk Drive to raise awareness of the shortage of milk in food banks and to help increase the access to fresh milk. The goal is to deliver two million gallons of milk to food banks across the country.
Help make a better tomorrow, today.
Donate nutrient-rich milk to your local community and help to resolve the milk shortage.
