Thank-you to the Mom It Forward Blogger Network and Trident for sponsoring today’s post.
In my middle school & high school years floss was not a part of my daily routine, I ended up getting a number of cavities in between my teeth and I still continue to suffer from the consequences today. Knowing the affects that having a poor oral care routine can cause, I made sure to always remind my children about preventative care and taking care of their teeth. They visit the dentist every six months, brush their teeth twice a day, use mouthwash, and floss. It’s has become a part of their normal routine, and I no longer have to remind them to brush their teeth after breakfast, or to remember to floss.
In addition to preventive care, chewing gum can help to clean & protect teeth after eating and drinking. My go-to brand for many years has been Trident, the first national sugar-free gum in the US. I always have a pack in my purse, and the boys will often split one piece in half so that it will last longer. While they don’t always remember to put the milk away after breakfast, they don’t think twice about reminding me a hundred times when they’re out of gum as they look forward to choosing a new flavor at the grocery store.
The children always break out into huge smiles when I let them choose a new flavor of gum and show their pearly whites. I’m often jealous as how white and shining their teeth are, and wish that I took better care of mine growing up as it now affects me in my adulthood. While I had the resources but didn’t use them, there are a number of children nationwide that do not have access to yearly dentist visits due to lack of resources, insurance, language barriers, and transportation. It’s important that children have access to preventative care, as it has an impact on their overall health as a child, as well as an adult.
For the past 11 years Trident has supported Oral Health America’s non-profit program Smiles Across America, and has donated more than $2,500,000. While I’m often in the mood for a refreshing mint flavor like Spearmint, the children prefer the delicious fruit flavor like Watermelon Twist.
