Add a delicious spread of red, white and blue to your table with easy patriotic desserts. This Firecracker Cake is a fun dessert for the 4th of July or Memorial Day and is made with red, white, and blue cake layers, drizzled with frosting and topped with patriotic sprinkles.
I first made this Firecracker Red White and Blue Cake two years ago for the 4th of July, and it has been a big hit ever since. I use the same basic recipe for each holiday, and switch up the colors to match the theme. Orange, purple and browns for the fall, green & red for Christmas, and red, white and blue for Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day.
Firecracker Red White and Blue Cake:
What You’ll need to make this Firecracker Cake:
- 1 box Betty Crocker® SuperMoist® white cake mix
- Water, vegetable oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
- Red food color
- Blue food color
- 1 container (12 oz) Betty Crocker® Whipped fluffy white frosting
Red White and Blue Bundt Cake Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325°F and grease bundt pan.
- In a medium bowl mix cake batter as directed on box, using water, oil and egg whites. Divide cake batter into three separate bowls. In one small bowl, stir in red food color, mix well. In second bowl stir in blue food color, mix well. Leave third bowl white.
- Pour red cake batter into bottom of pan. Carefully pour white batter over the red batter in pan. Pour blue batter over white batter. (Blue batter does not need to cover white batter completely; it looks better if it just forms a ring in the center of the white batter.).
- Bake as directed on box or until toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool cake 5 minutes and then transfer onto cooling rack. Cool cake completely, about 30 minutes.
Decorated with red, white, and blue frosting.
- When cake is cool, divide frosting evenly into 3 microwavable bowls. Microwave 1 bowl of frosting uncovered on high for only a few seconds until smooth enough to drizzle over cake. (Make sure not to overheat.)
- With a spoon, drizzle all of white frosting back and forth around top of cake in a striping pattern. Repeat microwaving second bowl of frosting until smooth. Stir in a few drops blue food color until well blended. Drizzle over cake, striping frosting back and forth. Repeat with remaining bowl of frosting and red food color, making sure red, white and blue frostings can be seen on cake. Sprinkle with red, white and blue sprinkles or candies.
- Let cake stand at room temperature until frosting is set before serving.

I’m planning to make this Firecracker Red White and Blue Cake once again for the 4th of July, but this year I’m thinking of adding Pop Rocks to the top to make it POP, just like a 4th of July Firecracker.
