Deployments are never easy, whether it’s your first or your fifth and although you get into a routine, it’s something you never get used to. Too often military members miss out on first birthdays, milestones, holidays, and the comfort of being near home and family. Loved ones have to leave for extended periods of time and simple things like getting into your own bed at the end of a busy day, enjoying a family meal, or even cutting your own grass are impossible.
Just this past summer I was ready to be back in the comforts of my home after our two week vacation, I missed my bed and eating meals in our kitchen. I couldn’t imagine having to be away from my family and my house for 6 months to a year.
This fall, the USO and Marie Callender’s are once again participating in the Comforts from Home Project to help bring the comforts of home to deployed U.S. military members.
