With the boys entering Kindergarten and Preschool within the next couple of weeks we have been busy preparing and getting into a back to school routines. Since Jacob is in the afternoon session for Kindergarten, he will be eating lunch before he heads off to school, Tyler will also be home for lunch since preschool is only half day. The boys can be picky at times or too distracted to want to eat their lunch, so I have found that if I include them and make lunches fun, they are better at eating. This week we paired a variety of Nestle Brand Products to make quick and easy meals.
We headed off to Walmart to purchase Nestle Pure Life water, Nestle Nesquik Ready to Drink flavored milk, Nestle Juicy Juice 100% Juice, and Lean Cuisine Simple Favorites Varieties.
Since our local Walmart was renovated into a Super-Walmart, I almost always do all of my grocery shopping there now, not only have I found the prices low but they also seem to have a wide selection of products, especially newer products, and the isles are always stocked full.
I try to include both of the boys in our grocery shopping, it makes the time spent in the grocery store easier and they are more apt to want to try new things if I include them. For a couple of the lunches this week we chose a few Lean Cuisine Simple Favorites freezer meals including Macaroni and Cheese, French Bread Pepperoni Pizza, and Asian-Style Pot Stickers. The freezer meals take just minutes to heat up, and make for easy meals not only for myself but for the boys.
We have been teaching Tyler his colors, so I have found it helpful to make lunches color themed. The other day we did the color “orange” and for lunch we had orange-colored food including Lean Cuisine Macaroni and Cheese and Juicy Juice Orange Tangerine.
On another day this past week we had a “red” theme, with red foods including Lean Cuisine French Bread Pepperoni Pizza and Juicy Juice Fruit Punch.
The “brown” and “pink” days where the boys favorite as they are a huge fan of Nestle Nesquik Ready to Drink flavored milk, chocolate and strawberry flavors.
Some days I plan a color while other days I just look in the fridge, freezer, and pantry to see what color we can do. I usually also make two to three days at the same time so the boys can just grab their lunch container from the fridge. Since all of the sides are already in the container I just have to quickly and easily heat the main dish if it’s a freezer meal – like the Lean Cuisine Pepperoni Pizza or the Macaroni and Cheese. The boys get quite excited for lunch now and I can almost guarantee that they will eat their whole lunch, making sure that Jacob doesn’t go hungry while he’s at Kindergarten.
