For the past month, my son has been anxiously counting down the days until the release of How To Train Your Dragon The Hidden World and it’s finally here!
I picked up the How to Train Your Dragon 3 Walmart Exclusive DVD Gift Set, new How To Train Your Dragon toys, and a super soft blanket featuring Hiccup and Toothless to celebrate the new release. While shopping for the movie, I decided to bake up a batch of How to Train Your Dragon cupcakes featuring Toothless and Light Fury, the new female dragon. The kids were so excited to see a new female character, a white dragon with baby blue eyes, in the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy.
The dragon cupcakes are super easy to make using black and white frosting, and black and white sprinkles. Candy melts were used to make the eyes to make the eyes but you could easily use additional frosting or candy eyes. This How to Train Your Dragon 3 inspired recipe was the perfect dessert to eat while enjoying the show.
How to Train Your Dragon 3 Cupcakes:
Bake up a batch of your favorite cupcakes.
Light Fury Cupcakes:
Frost cupcakes with white frosting. Top with white sprinkles.
Toothless Cupcakes:
Frost cupcakes with black frosting. Top with black sprinkles.
How to make dragon eyes:
Light Fury Eyes: Melt blue candy melts on 50% power for 15 seconds in a microwave safe container, stir. Repeat until melted.
Carefully pour into a piping bag or ziplock bag. Cut a small piece of the corner of the piping bag or ziploc bag. Repeat step with additional colors.
Lay a piece of wax paper on counter. Make a blue eye on the wax paper using the blue candy. Add a black dot in the middle using melted black candy. Allow to harden, you can place in the refrigerator for a few minutes to speed up the process. Remove candy eyes from the wax paper, place a small dot of frosting on the back to act like blue and place on caupcake.
Toothless Eyes: Make candy eyes using step above with lime green candy melts and black candy melts.
Family movie night quickly turned into movie afternoon, as the boys were too excited to wait until after dinner to watch the 3rd installment. Before I knew it, How to Train A Dragon The Lost World was playing for a second time. My middle son could not get enough and has watched it three time in three days, even having me add the digital movie to his iPad. His favorite part was when Toothless & Light Fury led all of the dragons into their new home, and seeing all of the “cool” dragons that were in the Hidden World. The Light Fury and Toothless cupcakes were the icing on the cake when it came to a fun family movie night watching How To Train Your Dragon 3.
