My mother made something very similar years ago for my birthday and they were a huge hit. I was reminded of them this past winter when she surprised me with a new baking accessory, the Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Baking Rack which make for quick and easy Cupcake Cones.
Unlike a typical cupcake where kids get their hands and clothes covered in frosting, these red, white, and blue ice cream cone cupcakes s are a fun and mess free way to serve cupcakes, and there’s no cupcake wrappers to pick up.
Red, White, & Blue Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes:
To make these 4th of July desserts you will need:
- Your favorite white cake recipe or mix (Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on cake mix box)
- Flat bottom ice cream cones
- White frosting
- Patriotic Sprinkles or cupcake decorations (Fun Pix)
- Ice Cream Cone Cupcake Baking Rack (or a cupcake tin and foil to help hold cones upright)
- Food coloring – I use the Wilton Color Right Performance Color System
- optional – piping bag and decorating tip (Wilton Color Swirl)
Directions:
Prepare cake mix according to directions. Separate cake mix evenly into 3 bowls, add red food coloring to one and blue food coloring to another, mix until well blended. Leave the third bowl white.
Fill each cone about 3/4 full of batter, alternating with the red, white, and blue colors. Use a toothpick or butter knife to swirl. Make sure not to over mix as colors will blend.
Bake at 400 degrees F for 15 to 18 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean.
Frost when cooled, frost and top with patriotic sprinkles or cupcake decorations (Fun Pix).
*To get the red, white, and blue swirl, separate white frosting into three bowls, add red food coloring to one, and blue food coloring to a second. Mix until well blended. Use the Wilton Color Swirl with the 1M tip to create the swirl pattern.

Step by Step Instructions to make these red white and blue cupcakes:
