The school week is always the busiest time in our house between taking care of the baby, the dogs, getting the kids ready for school, work and preparing for their after school activities. One thing that has helped tremendously is getting into a school routine, not just at night but the morning as well. It takes a week or two to get used to the routine but after that it just comes natural, the kids automatically wake up when their alarm goes off and they start getting ready for the day. Once their teeth are brushed they can grab an outfit from their closet shelf.
Meal prepping has been a huge time saver in the morning, not just for breakfast but the school lunches as well. The kids can grab a pre-made waffle, pancake, or French toast out of the freezer and pop it in the toaster oven or microwave for a few seconds. When it comes to packing their lunchboxes, the snacks and juice boxes they can choose from are in a separate area in the cabinet and in the fridge
Back-to-School Tips:
Get into a routine: Not just a bedtime routine but a morning routine as well.
Set out clothes the night before: The boys have this neat hanging shelf in their closet where I will place outfits every time I do the laundry. This saves time in the morning trying to figure out what to wear and matching up outfits. The clothes are already separated and the kids can just grab a particular shelf.
Prep breakfast meals: Double, triple, or even quadruple a batch of pancakes, waffles, and/or French toast. Play in the freezer on a cookie sheet until slightly frozen, then toss into a Ziploc bag and store in freezer until ready to use. By placing them in a single layer and allowing them to slightly freeze they will not all be stuck together in the Ziploc.
Prep school lunches ahead of time: Every Sunday I prep the children’s school lunches for Monday through Thursday as they get hot lunch on Fridays.
I think I may have more fun prepping the kids school lunches then they have eating them. Some weeks they’ll get a simple pb&j sandwich while others I’ll spend a little more time making “sandwich skewers” or roll ups with Nature’s Harvest® Honey Whole Wheat bread. Nature’s Harvest® whole grain breads are baked with at least 8 grams of whole grains per serving, contain no artificial colors or flavors and no high fructose corn syrup.
When it comes to snack time, I choose wholesome snacks that add fun to their lunches. In addition to fresh fruits and veggies I try to keep a few convenient snacks in the pantry including Little Bites™ Snacks. The kids always get excited when they spot the Little Bites™ in their bags, while Blueberry or chocolate chip muffins is usually their go-to, they’re loving the limited edition S’mores flavor.
